Problem is, just because you go into business for yourself doesn’t mean you leave your old stories at the door! One of the biggest challenges you’ll ever face as an entrepreneur is undoing years of conditioning that’s designed to keep you in a JOB, playing small and staying safe. For most women, the old patterns lead to creating some very unpleasant situations: wild swings in their income, clients who push their boundaries, overwhelm, and money drama.

As a woman, you are a master manifestor! But until you switch from creating by
accident to creating with deliberation, you’ll continue to create situations
you don’t want and wonder how you got there.

How do you get out of “accidental creator” mode? Start with
these 3 steps…

1. Get clear – and get real – on your true desires.

For years I denied my desire to write and told myself that I wanted to be a
scientist, like my dad. Then when I started my own business, I told myself that
I would “do the copywriting thing” to make some money while I pursued
fiction writing, which I told myself was the only way to honor my Divine
Feminine Gift of Creativity.

Truth was, I woke up every day with a deep desire to create an information
marketing empire. I was fascinated and excited by the idea that I could make my
own life-changing programs and sell them myself. But that dream was for someone
else, not me; and besides, who was I to do something like that?

When I finally got real about my desires and said yes to them, my
business took off. Everything got easier. And I’ve experienced immense joy that
none of my other jobs or creative hobbies ever came close to matching.

While your business isn’t always going to feel easy, it should ALWAYS be a
source of good – as in, “it’s all good.” In my business, even the
challenges are great problems to have.

When you feel like all the joy and passion has been sucked out of your
business, the first step is to check and see if what you’re doing is actually
in alignment with YOUR deep desires. Are you living your dream or someone
else’s dream? What deep desire do YOU need to say yes to?

2. Understand that your thoughts alone are not enough.

Open any book on manifestation written in the past 150 years and you’ll see the
same core idea: “your thoughts create your reality.”

And it’s true, they do. The problem is, trying to control your thoughts can be
dang near impossible. Thanks to biology and conditioning, your mind wants to
take you to negative places. Many women spend exhausting amounts of energy
trying to avoid negative thoughts and feelings, which only gives them more
power.

That’s why when it comes to creating your reality, trying to control your
thoughts alone is a recipe for frustration. The great news is, as human beings
we’re wired to model whatever’s in our environment. The solution? Set up
systems, including systems of thought, that make your success simple, ease-ful
and inevitable.

3. Make decisions instead of setting intentions.

What I’m about to say will undoubtedly piss some people off. But I wouldn’t be
the mentor you expect me to be if I didn’t call it like I see it. So here it is:

99.9% of intentions are useless.

The intention behind setting intentions is a positive one, of course. You’re
saying, “Hey, I want this.” Thing is, most people make what I call
empty intentions. They set the intention, turn it over to Spirit and
take a wait-and-see attitude… which of course leaves a big fat OUT if it
doesn’t happen. (“Oh, well, it wasn’t meant to be.”)

Decisions, on the other hand, are all-or-nothing. When you make a decision and
show up with true conviction, Spirit presents you with opportunities, because
you have made a commitment to take aligned action to bring what you want into
being.

Your ability to make a decision is one of your many creative superpowers -
possibly the most important of all. As our pal Yoda says, “Do, or do not. There
is no try.” The next time you want to set an intention, ask yourself, “Am
I setting an intention when I really need to make a decision?”

Create…

You were born with the ability to create your life exactly as you
want. And that includes a business that truly supports you, your life and
your dreams. It starts with a decision to shift out of “accidental
creator” mode and reclaim this ability within you. Are you ready to make

Women have a deep desire to give and are often conditioned to sacrifice their needs in order to help others reach their goals.  While it may feel like you need to give, give and then give more in order to be successful, overgiving will deplete your capacity for success.  Even when the giving is kept in check, this is still only ONE part of the success equation.

The other half is receiving.

Let’s be real – receiving can feel a lot less comfortable and often
brings up unworthy feelings, fears and disconnection. When left unchecked,
these beliefs becomes a breeding ground for sneaky and self-sabotaging
behaviors, such as…

• Not reaching out to your clients when you have a new offer
• Not following up with past clients
• Taking too long to follow up with potential clients who contact you
• “Misplacing” money or checks (think affiliate checks that end up in a
  stack of papers, never cashed)
• Not hiring a mentor
• Not asking for help
• Taking too long to hire team
• Doing $15-20/hour tasks yourself

To stay out of the pattern of over-giving and depletion and instead allow
success to show up in your life, you must first awaken and accept your
Divine Feminine Gift of Receiving.  The great news is, your business
provides endless opportunities to flex your receiving muscle, allowing more of
the good stuff (clients, income and opportunities) to flow to you with less
effort.

Here are 4 of my favorite power tips to open the channels and receive
with grace, in your business and life:

1) Shine a light on what stops you.

The first step to embracing the art of receiving is awareness and the
willingness to see truth. Where are you blocking the flow, with beliefs
like…

“I don’t deserve it”

“I’m not good enough”

“That’s for someone else, not me”

“It’s not spiritual to have wants, needs, desires…”

“It can’t be this easy”

Remember where there is a block or negative belief, there is also an
opportunity to reveal and heal the inner struggles that hold you back. Become
an insatiably curious explorer and track down the source within.

2) Practice with the small stuff!

No matter what your circumstances, the Divine is constantly presenting you with
rich opportunities to receive.  The more you accept, the more you’ll be
offered.  You can create the experience (proof!) of the Universe giving
you more when you start with the small stuff.

In Feminine Magic, we practice the art of accepting all compliments.  It’s
one of the most simplest actions, yet for many women it can be one of the most
difficult things to do.  So practice!  When the gal at the bank
compliments your hairstyle, say thank you.  When the dude at the
grocery store offers to carry your bags or holds the door open for you -
let him.

Remember that no matter how small these simple gifts may seem, energy expands
at will and it is confirmation that you are allowing this
energy to flow and penetrate your world.

3) Make sure your business model is in alignment with your income
goals.

Let’s say you have a goal to create $200,000 in income over the next 12
months.  Which of these two scenarios sounds easier?

• Selling 100 infoproducts at 1,000 each over the course of the year, then
  enrolling 10 of those (highly qualified) clients into a $10,000 program
• Selling 1600 hours of your time at $125 per hour

When it comes to manifesting, you always have two choices: make it easy for the
Divine to deliver exactly what you want, or make it harder.  Your business
model is one of the first ways to allow money to come to you.  Create a
structure (or vessel) that allows you to provide more value in exchange for
more money, while spending less time doing it.

4) Don’t make it hard for your peeps to do business with you!

I’m always stunned when I hear women say that they want to make more money, but
then they put off things like opening a professional merchant account,
investing in a shopping cart, hiring an client care virtual assistant for a few
hours per week, and other basics.  Or their online infrastructure (order
forms, sales pages) is riddled with errors and broken links.

These “details” are the lifeline of your business and bank
account.  When you make it hard for people to work with you, you block the
flow of income coming to you.  Plus, they’re a huge turn-off for the
high-end clients who WANT to pay you great money for your work.  Say YES
to their gift of business and show the Universe that you mean it by getting
your order processing and client care ducks in a row.

Remember, the more you receive, the more you can
give.  If you’re not receiving, then you’re not creating
fully either. Make the empowered decision today to receive openly and allow
these simple but profound shifts to shape your new world.

If so, you’re not alone.

All too often, spiritual women resist setting goals because goal setting feels heavy and masculine and that to set a goal means you must drive, strive and push against the divine flow – so “old paradigm!” they will say.

Is this true about goals, or is that just what many are telling themselves?

After coaching hundreds of women over the years, what I’ve found is that underneath the many and varied reasons for not setting goals, what exists is either a fear that you won’t meet the goal OR if you really go deep,  the fear that you WILL meet the goal.

And the flip side is that when a goal is set, and not met – this perceived “failure” sets the wheels in motion of beating oneself up, feeling wrong, unworthy, not capable and questioning everything it is that you do and are capable of!

Of course it’s only natural to want to “protect” yourself from this viscous cycle.  The problem with all of this is you cannot manifest what you want unless you have a clear picture of what it is you want.

The other problem is that not setting goals lets you “off the hook” from claiming and creating exactly what you want.  It’s far easier to stay in a state of neutral limbo, right?  But as we know, NOT moving is a stagnant, unnatural and unsupported energetic way of being in this world. Eventually if you’re not moving forward, you’re moving backwards.

So how do you embrace goal setting that is empowered, supportive and free from the cycles of judgment, blame and shame?   Here are 5 power tips to set empowered, soul-supportive goals that pull you forward…

1) Drop the judgment.

Women are naturally great storytellers.  But sometimes the storytelling gets them into trouble, especially when they’ve perceived that they’ve failed at something.  Judgment is really just another form of blaming and shaming. And going down this road is really just a symptom of a much bigger pattern playing out – namely, some sort of avoidance.

When you find yourself in judgment, what are you really avoiding?  If you’d met your goal, would you have had to step out of your safe zone? Do you secretly hold yourself back because of someone else’s feelings, should you succeed?  How is the struggle secretly serving you?  Shining the light of awareness removes the charge, allowing you to let it GO.

2) Set your goals, not someone else’s.

Another place where women get tripped up is when goals are set from a place of comparison. Just because someone else landed 5 clients at $5,000 each doesn’t mean this needs to be your goal too.

Instead of looking outside for what your goals “should” be, look inside and answer the following questions:  What is it that I really want to do next? What would be exciting and fun? What is my greatest desire right now?  What is my Creative Spirit guiding me to do?

3) Choose goals that are realistic, and a stretch.

Many women set themselves up for “failure” because they are choosing goals that are out of alignment for where they are now.  As much as goals need to be tangible, they also need to be believable by you. They need to excite you and you need to be able to envision it coming true – for you.

One of the secrets of manifestation is to start where you are – no further ahead or behind.  Don’t let yourself off the hook. Is a goal of getting just one new client truly going to stretch you or keep you safe? (And sometimes, when our humanness wants to be really sneaky – a low set goal will not get met in order to reinforce non-supportive beliefs even more.)  Remember, the whole point of a goal is to pull you forward.

4) Ask, “What’s the learning?”

In every success and perceived failure, there is learning to be had.  When something goes astray, instead of going to the place of judgment, instead ask what you learned.

There are reasons you might not reach your goals each and every time and these reasons are lush with valuable clues for you.  Did you not attract the clients because your niche is not yet where it needs to be? Or maybe you did not attract the partners you intended because something inside you needs to be cleaned up first….

TRY THIS: Next time you don’t meet a goal, rewrite your story.  Replace the antagonist with the heroine (you) and dig deep for the incredible learning that is waiting for you – then, choose to see what new opportunity is now possible.

5) Ask for support.

Are you soooo good at giving support but when it’s time to ask for help, you shrink back and try to go at it alone?  Stop being the lone wolf and build a support team of colleagues, mentors, learning resources and community. With this priceless resource in place – you’ll move through your wins AND your losses with ease, elegance and power.

Remember, goals are really just an extension of the expression of your Creative Spirit – the part of you that truly is longing to express, expand and act on its mission.

Your goals are about fulfilling YOUR purpose in this lifetime and when we resist setting them, we hold back the divine within that is trying to come through.

Within the next 7 days, schedule time for a date with your Creative Spirit. Be sure to bring a pen and your best notebook and craft your short term and long term goals from this new perspective.  Then choose 3 goals and create 3 action steps (one for each goal) that you can take in the next 48 hours.

As you take aligned action (instead of frazzled action), your goals will manifest with ease.  This is magic in action – enjoy it!

Far too many women entrepreneurs give up their power, their time and their life by being at the beck and call of email. How do I know? Because I hear it all the time from my clients, and… I used to be one of them.

Trust me, Goddess, it’s no coincidence that I made my first 6-figures in the same 6-month period that I finally just said NO to the email insanity. If you want to step into being the Divine Feminine Leader of your business (and make your next big leap in income and impact), you must get a handle on your email. Here are my 3 favorite tips for taming the email beastie:

1. Stop giving it away.

Be honest, now – how many times have you spent 45 minutes answering a client question that should have been brought to the next session? How about agonizing to get just the right words (read: so you don’t hurt their feelings) in a response to someone else’s emergency or drama? Or when a client asks you to “just have a quick peek at my website” and 2 hours later…

When you give away your time to answering client email – you’re doing exactly that: giving away your time. And you know that once you open that door… your clients are going to ask for more and more. The answer is to set a clear boundary: stop giving away email access, except for your highest level clients.

Taking this ONE action step will literally change your life. Here’s some wording you can model, taken from the invitation to one of my programs:

Notice how this positioning of my email sets an expectation and a clear boundary, one that I can return to again if issues arise (they rarely do).

2. Create a “super secret” email address – and keep it secret.

Your super-secret email your next clear boundary. By “super secret,” I mean, ONLY for your family, close friends, team and Platinum clients. Nobody else.

You can decide if you want to receive newsletters at your super-secret address. If you do, limit it to the top 5 that you read, and filter them into a folder so you can read them once a week or 5 minutes a day. Decide what works for you and stick to it. (And no Facebook notifications!)

Whenever I give my super-secret email to my clients, friends or partners, I am very clear about the rules. When someone violates them, they’re out. Yes, I’m ruthless about this. You should be too!

3. Release control.

All of the mail that comes to your “public email” – whatever you use on your newsletters, website, etc – should be sorted, handled and answered by an assistant.

(Stay with me! Keep breathing!)

Giving up email can feel complicated, but it’s really pretty simple. (Hint: this is a great place for your mind to create confusion and make it seem more overwhelming than it really is.) When you break it down, your business email will fall into these categories:

• Potential clients
• Current clients
• Potential partners (invites for telesummits, speaking gigs, etc)
• Personal
• Testimonials / raving fans
• Newsletters
• Emails from programs you participate in as a client

Start by creating a simple checklist of what you want your assistant to do for each of these categories. Yes, you’ll oversee your assistant at first, but very quickly they will learn how to respond on your behalf, leaving you free to put your focus where it belongs: income-producing activities.

4. Set a time… and a timer.

Respond to email at certain times each day – for example, mid-morning and late afternoon (but definitely not first thing when you wake up!). Set a timer for how long you’ll answer. This takes a bit of discipline at first, but stick with it and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll begin to “keep to time…” and how much time you’ll have left over for the things that really matter.
